Operations Day Team Lead

Position Description
Domtar is currently seeking an Operations Day Lead for the Pulp & Utilities Department at the Marlboro Paper Mill in Bennettsville, SC. This position reports to the Recovery & Utilities Manager. The Marlboro Mill produces approximately 750 tons/day of fine white paper and approximately 350 tons/day of market pulp. The Pulp and Utilities Department includes both the Fiberline and the Recovery & Utilities areas..
Responsibilities include:

  • Be an advocate for and an active member of the Pulp and Utilities management team.

  • Support all operations activities of the Recovery and Utilities area. This could include Domtar activities as well as some contracted activities.

  • Review daily operations strategies to insure that we are safely meeting our goals.

  • Review work orders and help to prioritize weekly planning and scheduling. Participate in the weekly planning and scheduling process for maintenance work.

  • Work with department leadership to plan the scheduled outages and react to unscheduled events. Develop operation timelines and coordinate with maintenance time lines as needed. Participate in selection of contractors and monitoring of spend against budget.

  • Help to monitor day to day maintenance and operational spending against budgets.

  • Directly supervise selected contracted maintenance jobs both during normal operations and during outages.

  • Help to facilitate good communications between the rotating shift teams, day maintenance teams, contract maintenance teams, and day staff.

  • Participate in trouble shooting efforts such as Root Cause Failure Analysis.

  • Participate in review of existing SOP's, development of new SOP's, and training of personnel as needed.

  • Periodically fill vacancies for the Recovery and Utilities Manager.


Position Requirements
Candidates for this role should at a minimum meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pulp and Paper or Engineering with at least five (5) years of operational experience related to Recovery and Utilities or non-degreed with at least ten (10) years of appropriate operational experience (Recovery and Utilities). Knowledge of operational aspects includes chemical recovery, power, and utilities areas.

  • Safety and team oriented with a good work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication and people skills

  • Strong leadership and decision making skills

  • Experience with SAP, Excel, Word, and Microsoft Projects preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
