Health Technician (Medication Technician)

Responsible for the administration and distribution of medication to inmates, in accordance with medication orders of physicians, dentists, mid-level providers, and other appropriately privileged staff. Uses Medication Administration Record to document all medications administered. Assists in maintaining accurate Medication Administration Records (MARS). Reports and records adverse medication reactions. Seeks immediate medical assistance for inmates with severe adverse medication reactions. Provides complete documentation of medication refusals and incidents. Assists Pharmacist or other appropriate staff member in a variety of pharmacy related activities, including, but not limited to, entry of physician orders into a computerized pharmacy information system, preparation of medications for Pharmacist review, preparation of medication administration records, storage and inventory of pharmacy supplies, etc. Assists in maintaining sanitation of the pill line administration area and pharmacy area and adheres to infection control policies and procedures as applicable. Completes medication inventory and assists Pharmacist or Health Services Administrator in placing automated medication orders, and drug related supply orders for the Pharmacy Department. Maintains accurate inventory of all needles, syringes, and controlled substances used to replace substock inventory. Completes requisitions for medical/surgical supply requirements. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. Basic Requirements:
Education One year of graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GL-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. If you are selected for this position based on education, you will be required to provide an OFFICIAL transcript prior to your first day on duty. OR Experience You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is directly related experience that includes support duties to medical or health personnel. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience in maintaining accurate inventories of all needles, syringes and controlled substances. Experience in preparing medications for Pharmacist review and placing automated medication orders. Experience in reporting and recording adverse medication reactions. Experience in administering medications (i.e. sublingual, buccal, eye, ear, nasal, topical, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous). AND Selective Placement Factor:
Applicants applying for this position MUST possess the following Selective Factor. In the event you do not possess the Selective Factor, you will be found ineligible for the position. This position requires the knowledge gained through one or more of the following:
a medication administration training program, a certified nursing assistant or medical assistant program which included instruction on medication administration, certified pharmacy technician program, vocational nursing program, or paramedic training program. Evidence of program completion is required. The incumbent is required to successfully demonstrate initial competence to administer medications, and on-going competence in administration. If the incumbent is a licensed vocational nurse, paramedic, or certified pharmacy technician state licensure or certification (as appropriate) must be maintained. NOTE:
Evidence of completion of a program such as a medication administration program, certified nursing assistant, or medical assistant program, MUST include information which verifies the program included instruction on medication administration (i.e. transcripts that include coursework in Pharmacology or Medication Administration, etc.). NOTE:

Evidence of completion includes a diploma, certificate of graduation or certificate of completion, a transcript with a final passing grade (above C or whatever is the equivalent on the scale used by the school), or any statement that indicates successful completion of a program outlined in this selective factor. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
